The origin of golf is for historians still an open dispute. The more radicals date it back to the roman "paganica", a game in which a leather ball filled with feathers was hit with sticks. Other researchers have recently  associated golf to a chinese practice during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD), instead others to the period of the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD), where the first representations, in a game called "chuìwàn", retract men practicing a sort of "mini-golf".

Thanks to their migrations, some scholars believe it has evolved in the Netherlands, during the Middle Ages, through the "kolf", as seen in several Flemish paintings. Kolf  translated means precisely stick, and the game was to use a wooden stick to hit a leather ball and post it in a target far hundreds meters.

Scotland then will adopt it as discipline of its own culture, thanks to the implementation of game's codification ; will become and still remains the home of golf, infact, despite the disputes about the real origins of this game, it is believed that golf is understood as a discipline with specific rules, born in  Scotland and then spread in the British Isles and from there in rest of the world.
